Moving Into Web 2.0

What is web 2.0?

Refer to this interesting article on the definition of what is web 2.0? by Oreilly.

If it is too difficult for you to digest, just treat it this way: static pages, like pages of this website, are under web 1.0.

Blogs are categorized under web 2.0 as they allow interaction with readers. Besides commenting, another interesting feature is the RSS which allow readers to subscribe, receiving updates and read posting without visiting the blog.

What can you do about it?

If you are just into building your first website, you may want to just confine to a few; or 1 is enough. You can't possibly build them all.

  • A blog
  • Facebook
  • Youtube

If you look at the menu above, you'll notice I have a link on noblog. Originally, the idea was to show you what you can do show you want to blog without having the hassle of doing it on a blog.

I may enjoy doing it, but it's meaningless. While it gives me the control over coding, it didn't have the benefits of bringing in short-term traffic.

As such, I've set up a blog on websdiy, and shall start blogging as soon as my template is in order

Blogs anyone?

Consider building a blog. You can start blogging without owning a domain by just opening an account with blogger or wordpress.com

If you already have a domain and hosting, then you have the option of building a website and a blog as an extention to the website. Or you could just have the blog serving as the main website and do away with the static pages.

With WordPress, it is very simple and you could have it set it up within minutes with just a press of a button.

If you are just beginning to build your own website, then forget about web 2.0 for the time being. Don't get distracted.

I'll talk about building website using WordPress at a later stage.

Do you really want to blog?

Ask yourself this question honestly before you proceed. If you lacked the dicipline to post regularly, then don't blog.

Listed below are some of my blogs. Many had been deleted. Even those not deleted, they had not been updated for ages.
